For this project, I was tasked with creating trading cards for four racers on the charity racing team known as Heart of Racing. Unlike other racing teams, Heart of Racing doesn't take themselves too seriously as their primary objective is raising money for good causes. Because of this, I tried to keep the design for cards fun and light while still celebrating the racer's accomplishments. I also decided to write a short bio for the racers instead of including stats as I felt like this was more in alignment with Heart of Racing’s goals. This project was fun yet challenging. Without much knowledge on Heart of Racing or the racing scene in general, I had to do a lot of research to get a good feel for how these teams like to present themselves. It is not typical for a racing team to produce their own trading cards, so I had to make decisions on what made sense for Heart of Racing compared to Nascar or Formula One. One of the biggest decisions I made was not to include stats as this is the most common feature on any sports card. In the end, I decided that it made more sense to acknowledge the racer's achievements fundraising-wise since that is Heart of Racing’s main goal. This project also took many test prints and revisions. Creating something so small for print presented many issues such as crowding or legibility. Test printing really helped me spot those small issues in the design. In the end, I’m happy with how everything turned out and so was my client.
